Course Analysis

Total Distance: 119.4 km
Course Structure:

  • 87 km rolling loop around Middlesbrough

  • 2 laps of demanding Redcar circuit (32.4 km total)

Section 1: Rolling Loop Around Middlesbrough (0-87km)

The opening 87 kilometers take riders on an undulating journey through the Tees Valley. Relatively straight forward roads, with plenty of villages to go through.

26.5km: Straight section transitions into narrow descent

Same technical section as the start of Stockton National A circuit after neutralization. Off the main road, past the pub on the left then down a descent onto a narrow bridge. Caution required.

Into short kicker after the descent

44km: Road reduces to narrow section

Road reduces to narrow section with sharp 90-degree turns likely causing a stretch in the peloton.

  • Gradient: 4.1% (max 10%)

  • QOM: 54 seconds

52km: Kicker

  • Gradient: 10% (13% max)

  • QOM: 36 seconds

83.5km: Left turn up narrow climb onto the Redcar/East Cleveland circuit

Take a left up same road as East Cleveland National A circuit but tackled in opposite direction (usually descend it). Is narrow bridge with a kick

Section 2: Two Laps of Redcar Circuit (87-119.4km)

The final 32.4 kilometers consist of two demanding laps of the Redcar circuit, identical to the course used for the 2023 National Championships.

87.5km (and 106km) Climb 1

  • Distance: 1.5 km

  • Average Gradient: 7%

  • Key Challenge: Sustained power required over extended distance

Then into narrow road section with descent that usually can string it out.

97.4km (and 116.5km) Climb 2

Straight after descent, climb from roundabout

  • Distance: 700m

  • Position: Directly after descent and roundabout

100 (and 120km) Climb 3: Saltburn bank

Saltburn Bank to the finish, approached after a fast descent that adds tactical complexity. Then 500meters to the finish line.
