Course Analysis

118km total

  • 1 lap of finishing circuit (8.1km)

  • 80km loop

  • 6 laps of finishing circuit

Key Notes

  • Busy first 15km

  • Main feature 43-54km -> potential to split race significantly

  • 6 laps of finishing circuit

0-6km

  • Start with a lap of the finishing circuit

80km loop

  1. Narrow climb (6.5km) + 2 draggy climbs

  • Complete finishing circuit then head out of town. Take a right into narrow street road (picture)

  • Narrow street initially that will line the peloton out

  • Steep towards end >15% - get to the corner (in the street view) and done.

  • Descend then into two draggy climbs one after another.

  • Potential to easily burn a match on this climb and then suffer on the other two climbs. Get this climb right in terms of positioning and not having to chase will mean more in the tank for the other climbs

  • Good warm up will pay off for this race.

  • Draggy climb 1

  • 1.3km climb. 5% average

  • Draggy climb 2

  • 1.5km climb. 2-3% average

  • This takes you to 15km

  1. Rolling roads (15km - 43km)

  • Few lumps but rolling roads, nothing really happening. All waiting until the next section

  1. Hilly Section (43km - 54km)

  • Key part of the race. Place that will be attacked and cause splits in the peloton. The combination of climb 1 (fatigue) then the steep climb (strength) is close enough to each other to cause really issues. The road after climb 1 is slightly narrower as well making positioning harder to manage Its mid race, and no other features until the finishing circuit so great place for people to attack - therefore expect a fight here.

  • Climb 1:

    • 1.25km, average 5% -> nice wide roads, then turns right

  • Climb 2:

    • Initially flat when take the right

    • Ignore road going past junction (error in gpx)

    • Take a left up a steep kick: 10% average, max 15%, 400m long

    • No immediate descent. Go through Plumelec town before long descent

    • Great attacking platform just after the previous climb to wear riders out

  • Through town centre then descend nice wide roads

  • Climb 3:

    • 1.5km, 5.7% average. Max 9%

    • Good 3min effort required - if you been chasing after that steep kick, it be hard to push on properly on this hill to get a solid 3min effort out.

    • Get the previous climb right and then be able to sit with it. Splits will solidify on this hill.

  1. Rolling roads (54km - 85km)

  • Countryside roads. Stay vigilant but nothing that can really catch you. Just rolling roads700m climb at 72km after short descent. Can catch you out but shouldn't split anything.

  • At 80km, before coming into finishing circuit, take a right of a main road into narrow roads with short steep kick:

    • 400m at 10% - just be aware to not catch you out

  1. Finishing Circuit (6 x 5.4km)

  • Climb: 1km, 5% average

  • Narrow start to it

  • Narrow loop all way round.

  • Would have done a lap when start so no surprises.

  • Will be groups no bigger than 40 at this stage. Wearing down process in the final laps

Conditions

Ideal conditions, nothing to worry about.
